  1. Who is leading the Quality Management Partnership?
    We are led by Cancer Care Ontario and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
  2. Why are these organizations partnering on this initiative?
    Quality management in Ontario is fragmented across the system. Cancer Care Ontario and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario each have specific strengths:
    • Cancer Care Ontario is experienced in provincial program implementation, clinician-led, evidence-based planning and implementation, data collection to facilitate performance reporting and performance management, and health service funding/purchasing.
    • The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario’s activities to protect the public and assure the quality of providers and the health system include inspections of out-of-hospital premises and independent health facilities, peer assessments and continuing professional development.

    Together the two organizations can lead a single approach that integrates facility and physician quality management.
  3. What is the Partnership’s mandate?
    Our mandate is to implement quality management programs for mammography, colonoscopy and pathology to enhance quality of care, increase the consistency in the quality of care provided across facilities and improve public confidence by increasing accountability and transparency.
  4. What are quality management programs, to whom do they apply and what do they include?
    Quality management programs integrate facility and provider quality management. They apply to all clinicians and facilities providing colonoscopy, mammography and pathology in Ontario and include:
    • Provincial standards and evidence-based indicators and guidelines for each of the health service areas that apply to all settings where the service is performed
    • Quality reporting at the provincial, regional, facility and physician levels
    • A three-tier clinical leadership structure that includes provincial, regional and facility leads
    • Resources, tools and opportunities to support quality improvement
